Blueprint North Carolina
“Democracy is not a spectator sport.” — Marian Wright Edelman
Blueprint North Carolina is committed to building an anti-racist, inclusive democracy. By “inclusive democracy,” Blueprint means an open, reflective and responsive government, which recognizes structural racism and economic inequality. They believe that an inclusive democracy is not possible unless all of its citizens are provided with clean air and water, access to affordable housing, equitable public education, justice in policing, and healthcare. Their goal is to tackle issues of racial and economic justice so American democracy works for all of us.
Blueprint is a partnership of over 40 non-profit, non-partisan organizations working together to advance equity and social justice. Due to heavy workloads and limited time and resources, many non-profits do not have the opportunities, spaces, or funding to collaborate effectively and consistently with other organizations. In order to support their partners and their work towards a healthy democracy, Blueprint provides these organizations opportunities for training, resource sharing and convening. Leading up to the 2020 election, Blueprint’s partners expanded their voter registration programs to reduce the gap in voter registration rates between white people and people of color, and, in doing so, they have expanded the electorate. They accomplished this by running large, site-based voter registration programs in major metropolitan areas like Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro, while also expanding throughout rural Eastern North Carolina. From 2016 to 2019, Blueprint partners collected over 300,000 voter registration applications across the state. KABF is grateful for Blueprint and their partners’ work.
