Vashon Wilderness Program
“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” -- Albert Einstein
KABF gave a 2018 grant to VWP in memory of our beloved board member Steven Eugene Paschall. Executive Director Stacey Hinden told us that VWP plans to use our grant to support two exciting new programs: the Adoptive Families Nature Program and the After School Nature Program.
KABF received this thank you note from Stacey:
"Dear Katy Jo, Thank you so very much for recommending a generous grant from the Kelly Ann Brown Foundation in memory of Steve.
I know how much Steve loved the outdoors, connecting with his friends and family, and genuinely bringing people together in celebration and community. I remember the day that you both came to visit the program and sat around the fire with the children while they expressed gratitude—for various aspects of nature, for their families, for their friends, for mystery. This is where Steve's spirit burns brightly at VWP—in the heart of our VWP family, bringing people together in joy and communion with the natural world. We're so honored to partner with the Kelly Ann Brown Foundation as together we ensure that young people continue to receive not only the skills to survive in nature, but to thrive in our modern world—including self-confidence, healthy risk-taking, compassion, peacemaking, and a genuine love for each other and the Earth."
