Pennsylvania Stands Up
“I’m no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I’m changing the things I cannot accept.” — Angela Davis
In 2016, Donald Trump won Pennsylvania by 44,292 votes. In the wake of that election, thousands of Pennsylvanians came together, forming resistance groups in every one of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. In the three years since the election, these groups made tremendous gains across the state, developing lasting grassroots infrastructure in places where there had been little to none. After the midterms and with the lead-up to the 2020 election, several of the most game-changing organizations and campaigns joined forces to form a new statewide organization: Pennsylvania Stands Up. They came together because they believe there’s a massive unorganized base of voters in Pennsylvania, which can be organized. Pennsylvania Stands Up believes a “silver lining” of Trump’s election is that it spurred a new generation of grassroots leaders into action across Pennsylvania. They organized hundreds of rallies, ran for office, and knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors, which resulted in progressive candidates and issues winning elections. The vision of Pennsylvania Stands Up “is to support these emerging leaders and groups to develop, realize their potential, and win.” The Kelly Ann Brown Foundation is proud to support Pennsylvania Stands Up in their mission to “overcome the toxic combination of trickle down economic policies and social division that has wreaked havoc on working families.”
